THE INGREDIENT GUIDE

SULFORAWHITE®

Swiss Garden Cress Sprouts for More Even-Looking Tone

SulforaWhite® is a botanical cosmetic active made from young Swiss garden cress sprouts. It supports antioxidant defenses, visible radiance and a more even-looking complexion — without peeling the skin or altering its natural color.

SulforaWhite® is a botanical cosmetic active made from young Swiss garden cress sprouts.

It is used in tone-correcting skincare to support antioxidant defenses, improve visible radiance and help dark spots appear less distinct from the surrounding complexion.

Unlike exfoliating acids, SulforaWhite® does not work by peeling the skin. It supports processes associated with environmental stress and uneven pigmentation while respecting the complexion’s natural color.

Its role is gradual and complementary. It works best as part of a complete routine that also includes hydration, targeted tone-supporting ingredients and daily sunscreen.

What Is SulforaWhite®?

SulforaWhite® is a trademarked cosmetic ingredient developed from young sprouts of garden cress, botanically known as Lepidium sativum.

Garden cress belongs to the Brassicaceae botanical family, which also includes broccoli, mustard, radish, cabbage and kale. Plants in this family contain compounds known as glucosinolates and isothiocyanates — phytonutrients studied for their relationship with antioxidant-defense pathways.

SulforaWhite® is not simply crushed garden cress or an ordinary plant extract. The cress is cultivated and harvested at an early stage of growth, when its protective phytonutrients are particularly concentrated, and the extract is then incorporated into a liposomal delivery system designed for use in professionally formulated skincare.

On a cosmetic ingredient list, the botanical portion generally appears as “Lepidium Sativum Sprout Extract”. The exact declaration may also include the water, glycerin, lecithin and preservation system used in the supplier material.

What Does SulforaWhite® Do for the Skin?

SulforaWhite® is primarily used to support three connected benefits:

Antioxidant defense A more even-looking complexion Visible radiance

These benefits are closely related. Environmental stress can contribute to signals associated with excess pigmentation, and uneven pigmentation can then make the complexion look less clear or luminous. By supporting antioxidant defenses and pigment-related pathways, SulforaWhite® may help the skin appear more balanced and refined over time.

1

It Supports Antioxidant Defense

The skin is exposed daily to environmental factors that can increase oxidative stress, including:

Ultraviolet exposure Air pollution Smoke Inflammation Normal cellular activity

Oxidative stress occurs when reactive molecules exceed the skin’s ability to manage them effectively. Over time, this can contribute to:

Dullness Uneven tone Visible photoaging Loss of radiance Inflammatory stress

SulforaWhite® is used to support the skin’s own antioxidant-defense systems. Its garden cress sprout extract contains phytonutrients associated with sulforaphane, a plant compound studied for its ability to activate cellular-defense pathways.

Rather than functioning only as a direct antioxidant, sulforaphane-related compounds may help encourage the skin’s production of protective enzymes. This does not mean SulforaWhite® creates complete protection from environmental exposure — it provides supportive antioxidant care within a broader skincare routine.

Retinol and Collagen

Retinoid activity is associated with collagen-related processes and reduced expression of certain enzymes involved in the breakdown of the dermal matrix. This does not mean that applying retinol instantly rebuilds lost collagen.

Visible structural improvement requires time, and the result depends on:

delivery Stability Concentration Frequency Skin tolerance Supporting ingredients Daily protection The degree of existing photodamage

Retinol should be presented as supporting collagen-related skin processes — not as filling wrinkles or restoring youthful structure immediately.

2

It Supports More Even-Looking Tone

Melanin is the natural pigment responsible for skin color. It plays an important protective role and should not be eliminated or suppressed completely.

Uneven pigmentation becomes visible when certain areas produce, transfer or retain more pigment than the surrounding complexion. This may occur after:

Sun exposure Inflammation Blemishes Skin injury Repeated irritation Hormonal changes

SulforaWhite® is used to help reduce the visible contrast created by these areas of excess pigmentation. The objective is not to make the natural complexion lighter — it is to support a clearer, more uniform-looking tone while preserving the skin’s natural color.

How Does SulforaWhite® Support Pigment-Related Pathways?

Pigmentation is controlled through communication between different skin cells. Environmental exposure and inflammation can encourage keratinocytes — the principal cells in the outer skin — to release pigment-related signals. These signals communicate with melanocytes, the cells responsible for producing melanin.

One important messenger is alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone, commonly abbreviated as α-MSH. When this messenger interacts with melanocytes, it contributes to processes that increase pigment production.

Supplier laboratory research suggests that SulforaWhite® may help influence this earlier signaling process and reduce excess melanin production in experimental pigment-cell models. Its proposed role is therefore different from an ingredient that directly targets the tyrosinase enzyme.

SulforaWhite® should not be described as completely stopping pigment production or switching melanin off. Its role is supportive and gradual.

Is SulforaWhite® a Tyrosinase Inhibitor?

Tyrosinase is an important enzyme involved in melanin formation. Some tone-supporting ingredients are used primarily because they directly influence tyrosinase activity. SulforaWhite® takes a different approach.

In the supplier’s laboratory testing, it did not demonstrate direct activity against isolated human tyrosinase. Its proposed benefits were associated instead with:

Antioxidant-defense pathways Cellular protection Earlier pigment-related signals The response to α-MSH stimulation

This makes SulforaWhite® especially relevant in formulas that use several complementary ingredients to address different stages associated with visible discoloration.

It Supports Visible Radiance

Radiance is not artificial shine. A complexion appears more luminous when it is:

Hydrated Smooth Even-looking Comfortable Less visibly affected by environmental stress

Uneven pigmentation can interrupt the way light reflects across the face, making the skin appear dull or tired. By supporting antioxidant defenses and more uniform-looking tone, SulforaWhite® may contribute to skin that appears clearer and fresher.

However, it does not provide every element required for radiance. A complete routine may also need:

Hydrating humectants Moisturizer Controlled surface renewal Daily sunscreen Complementary tone-supporting ingredients

Is SulforaWhite® an Exfoliant?

No. SulforaWhite® is not:

An AHA A BHA A PHA A retinoid A chemical peel

It does not improve tone by loosening and removing accumulated surface cells. Its role is associated more closely with antioxidant support and pigment-related signaling.

This can make it particularly useful when uneven tone appears in skin that does not tolerate frequent exfoliation well. A routine may still include exfoliating acids when rough texture or congestion is also present, but exfoliation is not required for SulforaWhite® to have a role.

What Does the Research Show?

Research specifically supporting SulforaWhite® includes supplier laboratory testing and a small supplier-sponsored human study.

Laboratory research

The supplier reported that SulforaWhite®:

Supported the expression of selected protective enzymes in cultured skin cells Reduced melanin production in experimentally stimulated pigment cells Demonstrated activity in human melanocyte models Did not directly inhibit isolated human tyrosinase

These results help explain how the ingredient may work, but laboratory studies cannot predict the complete performance of a finished skincare formula on human skin.

Human testing

The supplier also evaluated a cream containing SulforaWhite® in a small split-forearm study. The formula was used consistently for approximately eight weeks, and instrumental measurements indicated improvement in skin-tone parameters compared with the control side.

This evidence should be interpreted carefully because:

The study was supplier-sponsored The participant group was small The test area was the forearm rather than the face The results apply to the cream that was tested The study was not conducted on every skin tone It was not performed on an Ariège finished formula

Ingredient research supports the reason for including SulforaWhite® in skincare. It does not automatically prove the results of every product containing it.

SulforaWhite® and Independent Sulforaphane Research

Independent research has examined sulforaphane for its relationship with antioxidant-defense pathways and pigment-related biological processes. These studies help support the scientific rationale behind using sulforaphane-containing botanicals in skincare.

However, several distinctions remain important:

Pure sulforaphane is not identical to SulforaWhite® A laboratory experiment is not the same as topical human use Different botanical extracts contain different amounts of active compounds Delivery and stability affect skin exposure The finished formula determines real-world performance

SulforaWhite® should therefore be presented as a well-characterized botanical cosmetic active — not as pure sulforaphane or a prescription pigment treatment.

SulforaWhite® vs. Generic Garden Cress Extract

Not every product listing Lepidium Sativum Sprout Extract necessarily contains SulforaWhite®. A generic garden cress extract may differ in:

Plant variety Growing conditions Harvest timing Extraction process Phytonutrient concentration Standardization Delivery system Stability Supplier testing

SulforaWhite® is a specific branded preparation with a defined manufacturing process and supplier research. The trademark should only be used when a formula contains the authentic supplier material.

Who May Benefit From SulforaWhite®?

Uneven-Looking Tone

It may support skincare designed to reduce the visible contrast between areas of excess pigmentation and the surrounding complexion.

Dark Spots

It may complement formulas addressing sun-related discoloration and other flat areas of visible pigmentation.

Post-Blemish Marks

It may support routines for brown or gray-brown marks remaining after blemishes have healed. Recurring blemishes should also be controlled to reduce the development of new marks.

Dull Skin

It may contribute to a clearer-looking complexion when dullness is influenced by oxidative stress or uneven pigmentation.

Skin That Does Not Tolerate Aggressive Exfoliation

Because it is not an exfoliating acid, SulforaWhite® may suit tone-supporting formulas designed to work without constant peeling or resurfacing.

The complete formula still decides

The tolerance of any product depends on its full formulation, not on one ingredient name.

How to Use SulforaWhite®

SulforaWhite® is used as part of professionally formulated skincare rather than applied as a standalone raw material. It may appear in:

Serums Moisturizers Tone-correcting treatments Radiance formulas Masks Multi-ingredient dark-spot care

Follow the directions for the finished formula. Do not purchase concentrated raw material and apply it directly to the skin.

What SulforaWhite® Cannot Do

SulforaWhite® cannot:

Change the complexion’s natural color safely Bleach the skin Permanently remove every dark spot Stop all melanin production Cure melasma Prevent every future area of pigmentation Replace broad-spectrum sunscreen Remove active blemishes Guarantee identical results for every skin tone Reproduce prescription treatment Prove the performance of a finished product by itself

Its role is supportive, gradual and cosmetic.

What Should Be Avoided?

Calling It a Skin-Whitening Ingredient

Older supplier language may refer to “whitening”, but Ariège should not use this terminology. The correct consumer-facing goal is a more even-looking complexion — not lighter natural skin.

Skipping Sunscreen

Tone correction remains incomplete when the skin is repeatedly exposed to the same triggers that contribute to pigmentation.

Expecting Immediate Spot Removal

Visible discoloration develops gradually and generally requires several weeks or months to improve.

Applying Raw Garden Cress to the Skin

Fresh sprouts are not equivalent to a standardized cosmetic ingredient and may introduce irritation or microbial contamination.

Using Too Many Corrective Products

Layering several separate brightening, retinol and exfoliating formulas may create irritation and additional discoloration. One thoughtfully designed tone treatment may be sufficient.

Treating Ingredient Research as Product Proof

Results from supplier testing do not automatically establish the performance of every finished formula.

How Long Does SulforaWhite® Take to Work?

SulforaWhite® does not provide instant pigment correction.

Immediately or within days

Any immediate change is more likely to come from the hydrating, emollient or light-reflecting qualities of the finished formula.

Over several weeks

You may begin to notice:

A fresher-looking complexion More consistent visible radiance Early improvement in tone uniformity

Around eight weeks or longer

The supplier’s human study evaluated a cream containing SulforaWhite® over approximately eight weeks. This provides a reasonable reference for evaluating gradual tone changes, but it is not a guaranteed timeline for every formula or complexion. Persistent discoloration may require several months.

Results depend on:

The type of pigmentation How long the mark has been present Formula quality Frequency of use Skin tolerance Control of active inflammation Consistency of sun protection

Take photographs approximately every four weeks in similar lighting rather than judging the skin every day.

The French Approach to SulforaWhite®

SulforaWhite® fits naturally within the Ariège interpretation of French skincare because it combines botanical refinement with targeted cosmetic science. Its purpose is not to make the complexion artificially lighter.

It is to support:

Antioxidant defenses More even-looking tone Visible clarity Natural radiance Gradual correction A multi-pathway approach to dark spots Results without aggressive exfoliation

At Ariège, a botanical ingredient should provide more than a beautiful story. It should have a defined identity, a considered formulation role, and evidence communicated with precision.

SulforaWhite® represents that balance: Swiss botanical science used to help the complexion look clearer, more refined and increasingly confident bare.
